The SBTi has approved SKOPE’s science-based emissions reduction targets

We’re proud to announce that our emission reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Playing our part to act on climate is a key foundation stone of our sustainability journey.

We've been measuring our emissions and working on reducing these for the past four years. As scientific rigour is a part of our DNA, we wanted to ensure that our reduction targets were in line with the latest climate science, so we sought out independent validation through SBTi.

The SBTi is the global leader in this space and has validated over 10,000 companies' emission reduction targets.

Our official validated targets are:

  • Near-Term: SKOPE Industries commits to reduce absolute scope 1and 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2022 base year. SKOPE Industries also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 25% within the same timeframe.
  • Long-Term: SKOPE Industries commits to reduce absolute scop1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2022 base year. SKOPE Industries also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90% within the same timeframe.
  • Net-Zero: SKOPE Industries commits to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050.

We know these are ambitious, and we have a lot of work to do. We’ve already got a number of projects underway.

For anyone unfamiliar with GHG inventories, here is a refresher on what the Scopes are:

Scope 1 emissions are ‘direct’ emissions from activities that are owned or controlled. At SKOPE, examples here are fuel in company vehicles and fuel for factory processes. Scope 2 emissions are from purchased energy. At SKOPE, this is for electricity for our sites. Scope 3 emissions are everything else. At SKOPE, we aim to measure our entire value chain, so some examples of our emission sources are freight, waste, business travel, purchased goods and services and use of our products by our customers.

In order to limit global temperature rise to 1.5oC, all businesses need to take action now. We encourage all our partners, from suppliers to customers, to join us by setting a science-based target and making rapid and deep emission cuts.
